Plagiarism / Plágio — Hans Rott , Gustav Mahler

Literally, I think, that it is a historic crime . . . that Mahler, who never acknowledged any influence of Rott . . . took literal quotes from the symphony [in E major by Rott] and placed it in different parts of his.

That’s not to mention all the dramatic gestures, not to mention these bleak moments of woodwinds, not to mention the chorales that reappear in the Second Symphony. (...)

Those are not just quotes, but would-be signature items of Mahler’s style.What this is, really, is a historic case of plagiarism. If Mahler lived today, he would be sued for plagiarism.

Literalmente, penso eu, é um crime histórico... aquele Mahler, que nunca reconheceu qualquer influência de Rott...  fez citações literais da sinfonia [em Mi Maior de Rott] em diferentes partes da sua.

Isso sem falar em todos os gestos dramáticos, sem falar nesses momentos sombrios dos instrumentos de sopro, sem falar nos corais que reaparecem na Segunda Sinfonia. (...)

Não são apenas citações, mas marcas distintivas do estilo de Mahler.

O que isso é, na verdade, é um caso histórico de plágio.
Se Mahler vivesse hoje, era processado por plágio.
